A Boat Day

We went out on the lake with some friends this afternoon. It was a great day for it! Not entirely calm, and the occasional wave would rock the boat a bit, but a lovely day to be out on the water. And the sun wasn’t too angry today either - no sunburn this time. On our way back in, the train bridge was closed to let a train through, and all the boats in the channel stopped to wait for the bridge to open again. I quickly sketched the bridge and background in, and waited for the train. As it passed through, I quickly added it in to the sketch too.

A nearby building with fun roofs.

As it turns out, trains are long. So after that sketch, I drew one of the neat-er looking buildings nearby (I think it might be called The Morris). I got partway through the sketch and then turned and saw a sailboat at dock just to the right. I love sailboats, and almost never get to draw or paint them from life, so I abandoned this sketch and did a quick sketch of the sailboat. After about ten minutes, the train finally finished passing, the bridge opened, and we were able to continue on the the boat slip.
