A Cool Little Sketch of the Lake

There's a favorite beach of ours on Lake Michigan on US 2 once you get into the U.P. I did a value sketch of it last week-ish. So tonight was the night for a color study. This is a bit of an odd one for me - it's a pretty "cool" painting. The lighting is very cool. Even the warmer colors in the sand are still quite cool. Color temperature can be pretty wild on a cloudy day. Warm in the sunlight, cool under the cloud-cover. I think this must have been a cloud-cover spot at the time. Often times I push the warms in a painting and underplay the cool colors. I guess. that's what's nice about a good quick sketch - you can play with new things without a huge time commitment.
