A Walk in the Woods

We went out for a walk in the woods along the creek after work today. The whole hike was just beautiful, and I took a lot of photos that I’m hoping will eventually turn into paintings, but during the last five minutes of our walk we came across this solitary fawn/fawn-adjacent deer just standing in the creek. Both Hannah and I reached for our phones for some photos, and as we did, an enormous heron rose off the creek about 20 feet away from the deer and flew off! We hadn’t even seen him before he started moving. It was super cool, but sadly neither of us moved fast enough to capture a photo with both of them in it. We did, however, get a lot of good reference of the deer, so that’s what I did a sketch of tonight. I’m really thinking about turning it into a painting as well. Perhaps starting tomorrow.
