Another Portrait Sketch

Another Portrait Sketch

I had every intention of ignoring my free time that I could use to paint this afternoon and then doing a quick portrait sketch in my sketchbook for today’s letter. But you can only spend so much time online before you genuinely start to hate yourself. And I hit that point pretty quickly this afternoon, so I got off the couch and went looking for a portrait to sketch on Pinterest (my personal stash is running dry, and for the purposes of simple practice I don’t mind using random photos provided the lighting is ok on the face). I found this portrait and figured I’d give it a try, only to be very pleasantly surprised with the results. You guys… It’s almost like consistent practice leads to improvement! I think I may have discovered something important about the way the universe works! Alright, all joking aside practice does lead to improvement - it’s just that my practice is usually a little bit less focused and the rabid squirrel and the crow looking for shiny new things that drive my psyche get bored and send me off on some new project or other rather quickly. So It’s been cool to see the more timely feedback loop of practice-feedback-practice-feedback-results in action. Anyways, I’ve got one more day of “drawing” practice, and then I’m off on another weeklong focus for next week.
