Apple Blossoms
I did this sketch early this spring. Apple blossoms are such a transitory thing - the space of time between when I see that they're out and when they disappear is near instantaneous. This year I happened to have my phone out at the right time, and snapped a few photos. This sketch was the result. I love how High-key the painting is, aside from a few dark accents along the hills edge - the house, barn and a few pine trees are really the only middle or dark values. Everything else is nice, bright spring colors. The high-key nature of the painting was a design choice for sure. If you look at the image below, the tree-line is pretty dark. I decided to lighten it to give the painting more of a feeling of light and color. I'm very happy with the result.
