For the Birds

For the Birds

It was a big day for birds. We saw an owl flying over some farmland this morning, and a Belted Kingfisher hanging out by a pond. Sadly, I didn't get any good photos of either of those, but I got a bunch of good photos of some birds at a bird feeder. So I'm continuing yesterday's theme of ink-and-wash sketches, this time of birds. I ran out of ink in the brush pen I was using for the wash, so the last bird was just drawn with a fountain pen. I've always enjoyed drawing birds, though generally I've drawn them from life when sitting outside - sparrows can be pretty brazen when there are food crumbs involved. It was interesting drawing some birds from photography, as it's a lot easier to understand where and how their legs are positioned.
