Getting Clearer on the Portrait
I thought I might do a quick sketch of yesterday's portrait painting, just to keep getting my head around what I need to do. I find that sometimes a sketch can be useful mid-painting. I usually think about sketching in the context of preparing for a painting - getting the composition and some of the details sorted. But sometimes when I notice something that feels wrong in the painting, I find that a quick sketch or two, really helps me out. I think it's the act of working on the problem without necessarily working directly on the problem. I'm not gonna mess up the painting by creating a sketch of it, but I'm still familiarizing myself with the problem so when I get back to painting, I know a bit more than I did before that can help me.
