Gray Snowy Day
I started this painting from Friday’s sketch and reference photo. The scene was delightfully grey, and I wanted to really try for those muted colors. I don’t know if you’ve noticed, but a large proportion of my paintings aren’t what you’d usually call “grey”. So sometimes it seems like a good idea to try something different. I started out with a base grey color as well as a few other colors that mix to grey pretty easily, and then a muted red, as well as a pastel blue and violet. I decided to go a bit larger with this one - it’s 24x30”. I’m pretty happy with how well, as well as how far, it’s come along this afternoon. I’m gonna try to bring it to a finish this week as I have time.
