In-Class Sketches

I started this painting in class today, in the moments between checking in with students on the progress of their paintings. I haven’t gotten very far yet - just far enough to cover the whole canvas. But it’ll be dry-ish by next Monday when we have class, and I’ll be able to start my second pass. I’m also including a sketchbook page from class today, where I was going over some facial proportions for a few student’s paintings.

Some very quick sketches to show the “Five Core Shadows” for describing the human face - downward-facing planes on the head that don’t catch as much light and help define the facial features.
