Master Copy
We’re doing master copies in my Intro to Painting class right now, and I like to paint during class alongside my students. So I waited until they had all picked paintings from the list I’d given them, and chose one of the unchosen paintings to do a master copy of myself. This is a painting by George Inness called “In The Gloaming”. I really like the moodiness of Inness paintings, and the fact that many of his paintings have approximately no hard/sharp edges in them. Everything is soft gentle transitions between masses. There’s also a great deal of texture within the large color and value shapes of the painting. So I got my first pass on this painting finished, and it should be dry enough by next Monday at classtime to do a second pass, and build up that fun texture. Until then I’ll have to find something else to paint.
