More Digital Landscapes

I’ve really liked doing these digital pieces as sketches for composition and color. But I was a little bit frustrated because it seemed like the ”canvas” was too small, and the brushes were grainy. Then I looked at the canvas size, and realized that I hadn’t done that before, and it was definitely way too small. I deleted the old pre-saved format, created a new, bigger one, and problem solved! Liking both the canvas size, and the way the brushes interact at this size/definition. It’s funny how sometimes stopping to re-acquaint myself with details allows me to realize that they aren’t serving me well. Small changes can lead to much higher satisfaction levels. This is a scene I saw walking home from work this spring. I loved the slash of light at the end of the field, and the house right in the center. The flowering trees and shrubs were a nice touch as well, so I tried to include them.

The reference I worked from. I ignored a fair amount of extraneous information that didn’t serve my main focus, like the extra houses on the road. I also exaggerated the slash of light on the field a bit.
