More Flowers

The lillies are starting to bloom in the garden. I love the lillies - they‘re so much fun to paint. While floral paintings and drawings are not usually something I’m particularly good at (as you can tell from the series of lackluster beginnings of floral paintings I’ve been sending you) I’m pretty decent at lillies. I had to do a quick sketch of the garden lilies today just for fun. I think the difference is that I’ve done a number of drawings and paintings of lilies over the years. I know them pretty well.

I haven’t done that homework with most other flowers, yet I expect myself to be able to create nice drawings and paintings of them. That’s not fair to myself. I need to do more homework - get more familiar with these flowers and give myself more time and allowance to finish these up well. So this next week I’m gonna do a finish-up-the-paintings-I’ve-started-but-not-finished-yet-in-this-marathon marathon. I’ve got three or four floral paintings that I’ve started that I’m gonna finish up this next week. Hopefully this helps me get a bit more practice and familiarity with these flowers. At the very least, I’ll be putting in the reps to get better.
