More Portrait Work

I think the next week or so is going to be chocked full of these two portraits - this one and the painting of Hannah and Alva. I started out my painting session today thinking I'd be happy to just get a first pass on the head done. Instead I got a first pass on nearly the whole figure. I'm pretty happy with the amount of work I got done today! That being said, there are definitely some things that stand out as needing to be fixed in the portrait. He looks like he's grimacing in the painting right now - I'll have to fix that. I think I might've made the face too narrow as well. And it's possibly ever-so-slightly too large? I'm honestly not sure. This happens sometimes after looking at/working on a painting for a few hours. I lose all objectivity and can't tell what's right or wrong with it. A day or two away from it and I'll be able to size it up a bit better. For the next painting session, I'm gonna try to do a first pass on the background and another pass on the portrait - turn that grimace into a grin. But I think tomorrow it'll be back to trying to capture a cat likeness.
