More Portrait Work

I got home from portrait class last night and did some looking at one of my favorite artist's work because I was still feeling a bit obsessive about portrait work. Painting is really just learning to see better and better as you make paintings. Last night the right combination of time spent making paintings and some study shortly thereafter let me see things in a way I hadn't before. So armed with some new insights, I tried another portrait with some very specific intents. I wouldn't necessarily say it looks drastically different from my usual work, but change in painting comes from dozens of little reinforcements in the direction you want to go in. And I think I've further clarified a direction I'd like to go in with my painting. So this little reinforcement in that direction is hopefully the first of many in the next few months.
