More Tomatoes from Life
Last time I tried to work on the tomato painting, I had trouble with my reference photo. So this time, I brought everything back outside and painted some more on it from life. There is a certain comfort that working inside from photos offers (obviously if you have decent reference), but as I get more experienced painting, I find that working from life is often much better at getting me the information I need when painting. I think I’d like to do more painting from life, as a proportion of my work. Perhaps a goal of mine over the next while should be to prioritize it, and push the ratio of painting from life higher.
Today was also the first day of school, and I’m teaching Intro to Drawing. I snuck these lily drawings in after I’d gone over beginning of the year housekeeping stuff for the class and introduced the first project. I love drawing lilies.
