More Work on Sunset

I spent a bit of time today working on the bright colors in the sky, and their reflections in the water today. Looking at it now, I think they need to be blended a bit, softened and toned down before I call it finished. I’m also not keen on the ripples in the water on the right side of the painting. They feel off right now. But I’ll get it right yet. I‘ve noticed that sometimes after a good first session on a painting, like this one was, the second session can sometimes feel like I’ve gone through and ruined it. I’m trying not to feel that way right now, but I‘ve also done this enough to know that anything that looks odd right now can definitely be fixed, and this painting will definitely be looking better after the third session.

On an unrelated note, did any of you see how awesome the moon was this morning? I’m told that the bright speck right next to it for a short time this morning was Venus? It was definitely too bright to just be a star. We happened to be heading to work at just the right time to catch this scene this morning.

The moon and Venus this morning. Pretty nifty.
