Old Guy Portrait

For this portrait, I went for an older bearded guy. All the hair tends to obscure some pretty difficult drawing - especially along the jaw line. And most of the facial features are pretty soft. The eyes are about the only facial features with any harder lines or edges. It's interesting seeing how much you can get a whole piece to hang off of one small area of precise drawing. Everything else is pretty soft and insubstantial. Makes for a fun balancing act figuring out how much is too much, and stopping yourself before you add too much detail to areas of unnecessary focus.
