On Composing Images
Sometimes these compositional sketches are fun to do simply to think about how to arrange things on the picture plane. I really like the power lines leading into the painting The trees form a nice barrier about half-way through the painting as well. Between the trees and the foreground field, about a third to a half of the painting is a medium to dark value, and the sky is a light value against it. I'm learning that it's one thing to know these things, and another thing to play around with them in a composition. The more thorough knowledge comes from doing, not just learning.
