On the River, Off the River (at home)
I got home from work today and rather hurriedly painted this sketch, as it’s game night, and we had to be gone in a few hours. I was perhaps still a bit bent about the weather ruining my plans yesterday and I used the reference I took yesterday to put this painting together. I also wanted to test out some linen-finish oil painting paper. (It’s alright.) We were gone for three or four hours, and I just got a chance to look at the painted sketch again. (It’s alright, too.)

Details.
I’ve noticed a strange thing about my paintings and how I feel about them. If I leave a painting and feel good about it, when I come back to it I’ll dislike it. The converse is also true. If I finish a painting session feeling pretty bad about it, I will more likely than not see potential in it on returning to it. Strangest thing. Not sure why that happens.
At any rate, I left thinking it was a pretty rough start, and I rather like where it’s going after having seen it again.
