Peony Studies
Peony sketch/study from this afternoon

Peony Studies

I didn’t have a lot of time today, but I did a couple of quick sketches of individual peonies, trying to figure out how they work. They’re weird looking. And complex. Now that I’m working toward finishing the Peony painting, I thought I’d try to figure their details out. Hence the sketch. It didn’t work - they still befuddle me. I sketched them out, took a picture of the sketch, and imported it to Procreate on my iPad to play with color and make a second attempt at understanding the Peony. I learned more, but I’m still not super confident. That’s how we learn, though. Try, fail, try, fail, try fail, with each try getting a bit closer. One day, I’ll finally understand the mysterious Poppy and create beautiful paintings of them. Perhaps this one will be the first. Or maybe it’s just another one of the tries.
