Slightly Longer Sunset

I took yesterday’s quick sketch, and worked it up into a color sketch on my iPad this evening. I love painting sunrises and sunsets - there’s usually a lovely gradient in the sky, and the edge lighting on the clouds is always fun as well. I‘ve definitely made this more saturated than the reference photo, but the reference photo is also less saturated than I remember the scene. I usually opt to paint the scene how I remember feeling about it, versus how the camera interprets the scene - the camera lies anyways. It was also super fun to differentiate between the individual parts of the silhouetted tree-line. Trying to impart different character into the different masses of trees and visually varying them was a nice little puzzle.
