Snow on A Winter Backroad
This painting is one of my favorite paintings that I've made in the last year or so. Largely because it's a bit different than my usual. Generally my paintings are pretty colorful... I think that's one thing that really drew me to this scene - it's so grey! I did really have to play within a very narrow band of saturation. The barn is a little bit red, the trees are a little bit blue , or brown, the sky is a little bit violet. But Mostly, it's just grey... The character of bare trees in the winter is always really interesting to me too. You can really see how each tree is different and individual. Each tree can be a bit of a portrait of that tree, instead of a symbol of "tree" in general.

Some details from the painting - it's really only in the details where you can see the individual colors, instead of the grey overall cast of the painting.
