Sun Dappled Path

I got started on the first of the two paintings I've got planned for this week - the sun-dappled path from Fernwood Gardens. I've got most of the base layer down after the first session. Right before starting, I thought I might change the composition to a more vertical, portrait orientation. I feel like it really helps the feel pine trees feel as tall as they are. In the other orientation, they get chopped off much lower. I also get blue sky and clouds in this composition, which I rather like. I'm really looking forward to working more on this one soon!
