The Fawn and the Heron

I’ve started working on the general composition for the deer and heron painting from yesterday’s walk. On this first pass, I’m trying to see what size the deer and bird should be within the landscape. There’s a fine balance, I think, where if they’re too small it’s mostly just a landscape, and if they’re too big the landscape detracts. I’m also trying to figure out how close the bird and the fawn should be. I‘m liking this first iteration, so perhaps we’ll see if a digital color study helps clarify some of this a bit more.
