The Real Thing
I got started on the actual painting of this scene today. It's been so much fun so far! I'm really loving the pine tree that I "haven't painted" on the right side yet. So far I've only painted the darkness of the negative space around the tree trunk. And I've got a lot of directional painted marks helping to show the form. Mostly, I've got the general colors and light/shadow pattern down. Next session, I'm gonna start working on all the little leaves that make up 85% of the painting. It's gonna be real tedious, but I think the effect is gonna be marvelous!

I took a few process photos about half way through today's painting session.

And some detail shots. I always really like detail shots from mid-way through the painting process. Often, they disappear under further layers of paint, never to be seen again. Without photos, these details would be lost.
