Toma-toes, Tom-a-to’s…

On the way out of the house after lunch, I saw these tomatoes in the garden and thought - “those would be fun to paint!” So I got home today, spent a few hours farting around and procrastinating, and then finally built up the executive function to drag myself outside with a canvas and paint. So far, I’m really liking the painting. It‘s slightly more muted in color than what I was seeing in real life - I was facing towards-ish the sun. This can alter color perception in weird ways. Painting from life is weird that way. I think I got what I needed in today’s life session today. I’m gonna work on the tomato leaves in the upper third of the painting, and then put the finishing touches on the tomatoes (hopefully) tomorrow. If I can, I’m gonna finish it up from the comfort of inside, away from the heat. But I suppose if push comes to shove, I’ll find myself sweating for the tomatoes.

They really are quite lovely tomatoes, aren’t they?
