(Untitled)
I've been picking away at this painting doing the obvious things, like I mentioned a few days ago. But I'm finding that I'm feeling stuck. So after a bit of consideration today, I did what felt like the next obvious step - a compositional sketch. It's often a good idea to do the sketch before-hand. But I find that sometimes if I get stuck in the middle of a painting, that a sketch can help me figure out how to proceed. So here's what I've got.

The flowers themselves form a kind of circular border around the hanging pot. I need to emphasize the few flowers near the center to keep it from looking empty in the center of the pot. A lot of the flower stems tend to radiate outwards from the center too. And a few darks selectively placed in the middle would help too. But I feel like my next move might really need to be getting the background in, and determining how much detail there needs to be - how abstract to keep it. My gut says to keep it pretty loose. I'll try these next-steps out tomorrow.
