Watercolor Poppies
I mostly paint in oils, but I do love a good watercolor, and there have been periods of time where my focus shifts to watercolors for chunks of time. I'm not sure if this is one of those times, but today I had the urge to start a watercolor painting, and thought these poppies might be a fun subject to try with them. I think I got a good first pass done on them. I'd like to get back to them again tomorrow and see if I can finish the painting up. Maybe if it turns out alright, I be encouraged to do a few more.
Watercolor is interesting - sometimes it feels just like riding a bike, and other times it feels like you're learning everything all over again from scratch. My favorite artist - John Singer Sargent - is said to have referred to watercolor painting as "making the best of an emergency", and I've always felt that it was a pretty apt description.
