What’s Harder Than Drawing A Cat?
The answer, at least for me, is drawing a cartoon cat. I’ve gotten a bit better at understanding cats well enough to generally draw them, thanks to Alva. But cartooning is effectively simplifying the subject down to it’s essence and stripping away anything that isn’t necessary. It’s visual minimalism, to some extent. These sketches don’t seem to be to be very effective.
But the only way to get better at drawing (in this case drawing cats) is to make more drawings (of cats). So in this case I’m gonna show my work - my attempts at cat sketches. I’m trying to simplify down as much as possible.
Today’s cartoon cat sketches come as a result of this week’s drawing class assignment - creating your own cartoon character. I’m not much of a cartoonist (anymore - I did a fair amount in grade school), but I try to get a bit better each year during this assignment. Hope you don’t mind the results too much.
