Winter Blues... And Oranges

I got to start something new! Full of promise and not full of portraits! I'm so excited. The beginning of a painting is always so much fun. In honor of getting to work on a new painting after forcing myself to finish portraits, I started out with straight up vibes this time. I just started out on a large scrap of canvas with a blue color field. Then I started adding the dark accents and the warm orange band of distant trees. I think this is a good place to have left the block-in for today. Everything is still really thin - paint-wise. Next session I'll start adding thicker paint, and really get into the painting. Until then, here's a few details of the houses and the reference photo.
