Winter Light on the River

Winter Light on the River

It was one of those bogus winters about a decade back where it was 60 degrees out in February. I biked out to the river with my watercolor kit and caught the sun at an oblique angle right before sunset. I honestly wasn't sold on the painting until I added the light blue gouache for the water on the river, and a few bright yellows for the sunlight branches. I also love the blue/orange color scheme. But I think my favorite part of the painting is the soft, pooling transitions between colors on the tree trunks.
