Winter Morning Sunrise
This view is often one of the first I see in the morning. I wake up, get out of bed, wander into the kitchen and proceed to get hot water going for tea or coffee. This view happens to be view through the window over our kitchen sink. Some days, the timing is right and I catch a great sunrise. For this painting, I was really trying to push the idea of the vibrant sunrise. I tried really pushing the saturation of any branches that cross over the sunrise in the center middle, and I think that really helps sell the idea of that bright, chromatic sunrise. The snow also adds this really nice repeating pattern of rectangular light-value shapes of the roofs and snow-covered foreground. And I suppose the reds of the sunrise, contrasted with the greens of the pine to it's left really helps amplify that chromatic feel as well.
