Woodland Scene
Today I went through my photo roll looking for an interesting landscape, just to mix it up a bit. I found this awesome scene from a walk we took in the woods a few weeks ago. Someone turned a fallen tree into a table and chairs. Coming across this in the woods felt like walking into the beginning of a fairy tale. I half expected to find an enchanted feast blanketing the table and woodland critters picnicing. I thought it might be fun to do a quick sketch of the table, to see if I should turn it into a larger painting. I also did a color study in procreate, to get a better feel for the lighting. So far, I’m really liking the direction this is going.

Sometimes a painting inspiration just hits you in the face, and very little work needs to be done - the painting practically paints itself. This one, if it gets painted, won’t be that sort of painting. Often times there’s a bit more work that need to be done to tease out the painting. These sketches and studies are the sorts of things that help me tease the puzzle of a difficult painting together.
